P, Ballentine & Sons Brewery was once the third largest beer producer in America. The Ballantine Brewery was founded in Newark, New Jersey by Scottish immigrant Peter Ballantine in 1840. The brewery operated in Newark from 1840 until its closing in 1972.
The Falstaff Brewing Co. bought Ballantine in 1972, and held the brand until 1985, when they sold the Ballantine Brand to the Pabst Blue Ribbon Co. who still brew the brand to this day.
