Italian Cocktails Recipes

The AMERICANO

The cocktail was first served in creator Gaspare Campari's bar, Caffè Campari in Milan, in the 1860s, an American man, who was under the impression that Campari was a long drink, ordered it, hated it, and said it would be better served iced and fizzy. He ordered a Campari and soda which became too bitter; after a few iterations he and the esteemed bartender decided on Vermouth as the perfect blend. It is the direct descendant of the "Milano-Torino" which consisted of Campari, the bitter liqueur from Milan (Milano) and Punt e Mes, the vermouth from Turin (Torino) but lacked soda water. This drink was itself a descendant of the "Torino-Milano", a concoction consisting of equal parts Campari and Amaro Cora.

In Popular Culture

It is the first drink ordered by James Bond in the first novel in Ian Fleming's series, Casino Royale. In From Russia With Love, Bond drinks "two excellent Americanos" in Rome during his flight to Istanbul. In the short story "From a View to a Kill", Bond chooses an Americano as an appropriate drink for a mere café; suggesting that "in cafés you have to drink the least offensive of the musical comedy drinks that go with them." Bond always stipulates Perrier, for, in his opinion, expensive soda water was the cheapest way to improve a poor drink. In The Tourist, Elise and Fred each had an Americano (or two) before their fancy dinner at a Venetian restaurant, and resumed drinking that post-dinner back in their hotel room. In The Talented Mr. Ripley, Tom and Dickie drink americanos on the Via Veneto in Rome.

"The NEGRONI"

CLASSIC NEGRONI COCKTAIL

A Negroni is a cocktail made with equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, and is often served on the rocks or straight up. It's typically garnished with an orange slice or peel and is considered an apéritif.

The most popular story is that Count Camillo Negroni asked his bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to make his favorite cocktail, the Americano, stronger by replacing the soda water with gin. Scarselli also garnished the drink with an orange slice instead of the traditional lemon slice. The Negroni family then founded the Negroni Distillery in Treviso, Italy to produce a ready-made version of the drink called Antico Negroni.

The NEGRONI COCTAIL INGREDIENS

1 ounce CAMPARI
1 ounce SWEET VERMOUTH
1 ounce GIN
ICE
1 Orange Slice

How to Make It :  Fill a Rocks Glass with Ice.
Add the Campari, Gin, & Sweet Vermouth.
Mix. Add an Orange Slice, and Serve.

 The APEROL SPRITZ

The APEROL SPRITZ

The APEROL SPRITZ

"A Brief History"

Often described as an Italian sunset in a glass, the Aperol Spritz originated in the city of Padua and has become one of the most famous cocktails from Italy. The Aperol liqueur became a beloved apéritif in Padua and out of its rising popularity the Aperol Spritz was born during the chic 1950s in Northern Italy.

In 1919, Luigi and Silvio Barbieri created Padua’s famous Aperol and as this bitter apéritif rose to fame, so did experimentation. During the 1950s, Veneto was at the peak of chic fashion and gastronomic delicacies, allowing the optimum moment for the Aperol Spritz to enter Paduan society.

Spritz is a form of cocktail as opposed to a singular drink, the term originates from the German Spritzen. The origin of the Spritz dates back to the 19th-century when the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s owned the region. When Austro-Hungarian soldiers first tasted Italian wines, they found them too strong for their taste and subsequently spritzed their glasses with water to dilute the flavor.

The years leading up to the 1950s saw rigorous advertising of the Barbieris’ apéritif, resulting in Aperol taking over Campari in popularity. Following a TV advert displaying the Aperol Spritz’s recipe, the cocktail soon rose to fame as a luxe drink for lunchtime aperitivo and summer evenings. By early 2003, the Campari Group had purchased Aperol and marketed the Spritz as a cocktail for the trendy and fashionable members of Venetian society.

The beauty of the Aperol Spritz lies in the simplicity of its ingredients, which extracts the quality of each native component. The foundation of this cocktail is Aperol from Padua, with Veneto’s adored Prosecco and chilled soda. The Aperol’s vibrant orange hue is slightly diluted with sparkling wine, painting the Spritz with a softer sunset glow perfect for summer evenings.

HOW to Make an APEROL SPRITZ

APEROL SPRITZ - Recipe :

3 ounces Prosecco
2 ounce Aperol
1 ounce Club Soda
ICE
1 Orange Slice

Fill a Wine Glass 3/4 full with Ice. Add the Aperol, then the Prosecco, and the Club Soda last. Give a little stir, and add the Orange slice. Add a straw and serve.

Mark Twain Favorite Cocktail Recipe

Mark Twain

And His FAVORITE COCKTAIL

American author Mark Twain's most notable claim to fame is penning "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." The only thing that may have rivaled the prose he poured from his pen is his love for the alcohol he poured into his glass. When Twain wasn't working on his storytelling, he developed a fondness for scotch whisky and for one drink in particular that seem very similar to a smooth old fashioned cocktail

While a traditional old fashioned relies on a simple syrup or a sugar cube and some Angostura bitters and is served with an orange twist, Twain was partial to a different citrus. The satirist revealed his affinity for this whiskey cocktail in a letter to his wife in 1874 while he was in London, writing, "Livy my darling, I want you to be sure & remember to have, in the bath-room, when I arrive, a bottle of Scotch whisky, a lemon, some crushed sugar, & a bottle of Angostura bitters" (per The New York Times). In fact, Twain liked it so much he confessed that he was drinking it three times a day to aid with his digestion.

Classic OLD FASHION Cocktail

An old fashioned is a classic Whiskey Cocktail with bitters, simple syrup, and fruit. Experts believe the drink is called the "old fashioned" because it's one of the first widely known cocktails ever. The name comes from people ordering the drink the "old-fashioned way.

OLD FASHION COCKTAIL

Recipe

Ingredients :

1.5 ounces Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
1 slice of Orange
1/2 teaspoon Sugar (Optional)
ANGOSTORA BITTERS
ICE
1 Maraschino Cherry

1.   Place the Orange slice and the Cherry in a Rock Glass. Add  sugar and about 6 dashes of Angostura Bitters.

2.  Muttle all together. Muttling is crushing and smashing the ingredients.

3.   Fill glass with Ice Cubes.

4.   Add the Whiskey and stir.

Notes :   The original recipe for the Old Fashion cocktail, calls for sugar in the cocktail. Now adays, many do not want sugar in their Old Fashion, and the cocktail is most popular these days without it. It's personal preference.

Also, you can add a splash of Club Soda to the drink. Again personal preference.

Myself, "I prefer my Old Fashion without sugar with a splash of club soda on top.

GREENWICH VILLAGE , NY

ANGEL'S HARE which opened in The East Village of New York City, was at the forefront of the New Cocktail Lounge Movement of the past 25 years. It was one of the first, and was sort of a secret hidden "Word of Mouth" Speakeasy Cocktail Lounge.

After a good long run, the establsihment lost their Lease and closed in March of 2022. While the wonders were looking for a space to re-open the popular cocktail lounge, they operated as a
Pop Up Cocktail Lounge in The Hotel Eventi on 6th Avenue at 30th Street. They found a great new space, and have re-opened the new Angel's Share at 45 Grove Street.

Italian Ricotta Apple Cake Recipe

RICOTTA APPLE CAKE

The Apple and Ricotta Cake is a soft dessert made with apples and ricotta cheese, a variation of the classic apple cake.
A very soft cake thanks to the presence of ricotta cheese that makes the apple pie even more delicious and fragrant at the right point, made with healthy and wholesome ingredients, ideal for breakfast or a tasty snack.
A quick dessert with Ricotta cheese that will appeal to young and old alike.
Let's see now how to prepare the Apple and Ricotta Cake in a short time!

RECIPE :

Prep. Time: 25 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1½ cups + 1 tbsp of flour
  • 9 oz of Ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 tbsp of butter
  • 3 apples
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 tbsp of baking powder
  • icing sugar to taste

DIRECTIONS:

To prepare the apple and ricotta cake first prepare 2 apples, wash and peel them, cut them into small pieces and set aside. In a large bowl break the eggs, add the sugar and with electric whisk start to whisk for a few minutes.
Then add the warmed melted butter, milk, and ricotta cheese and stir gently.
At this point add the sifted flour together with the baking powder and mix until you get a homogeneous mixture.
Now add the apples and mix well with a wooden spoon.
Grease a 9.45 inches hinged mold and pour in the mixture.
Cut the other apple into thin slices and decorate the surface of the cake (always leave some empty space to allow the cake to rise in order to ensure a good cooking inside).
Bake the cake in a static oven preheated to 356 F for 40 minutes (always do the test with the toothpick for cooking).
Let cool, then turn the cake upside down and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Cut into slices and serve your apple and ricotta cake.

The Perfect Margarita Recipe

The Perfect Margarita

5 of The BEST TEQUILAS to MAKE YOUR MARGARITA

Best Tequila for Margaritas

These are Just 5 of The BEST

GRAN CENTENARIO PLATA

Any tequila that’s the official drink of the Mexican National Football team is likely worth drinking, no? That’s Gran Centenario for you, with a heritage of over 160 years of distilling and bottling their inimitable spirit. Their Plata tequila is rested in oak for the full 60 days allowable for a blanco, giving it a rich vanilla undertone uncommon in this style. That’s rounded out by strong aromatic notes of pear and lime, resulting in a superb mixing tequila.

HOW to MAKE a MARGARITA

This famously sweet, sour and salty drink will forever and always be my all-time favorite cocktail. But while I adore just about any kind of margarita.

Mastering the margarita requires a certain amount of practice, but once you dial-in your perfect ratio, it's a really easy cocktail to replicate. The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts Triple Sec (or Grand Manier), and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

RECIPE "The PERFECT MARGARITA"

Ingredients :

Ice Cubes
3 ounces TEQUILA ( Silver or Reposado)
2 ounce fresh squeezed Lime Juice
1/2 ounce Triple Sec (or Grand Manier)
1 teaspoon Sugar

Salt for the rim of the glass (if you want it)

Fill a cocktail shaker with Ice. Add the Tequila, Lime Juice, Triple Sec, and sugar. Cover and shake until mixed and well chilled (about 20 seconds).

Place about 2 ounce of Salt in a small plate. Cut a Lime into 2 slices, one for the garnish and one to rub on the rim of a rock glass.

Rub the whole rim of a rock glass with a lime slice. Place the rim of the glass into the Salt to coat the rim with Salt (You can also do a combination of Salt & Sugar).

Pour the contents of the cocktail shaker into the rock glass. Place a  slice of Lime on top and serve.
