I've been going to Sun Sai Gai Rice Shop on Canal Street for more than 35 years now. It is without question one of the best places in all of New York City to get a super tasty inexpensive Cheap Eats Meal, "Sun Sai Gai" can not be beat by any restaurant , food-truck, or whatever in the whole of New York for the great taste, quality, variety, and affordability of a meal. They are The Tops. I've had hundred of meals here. It's actually a destination for me. When I first discovered the place in 1984 and lived on Avenue A in the East Village, and still now living in Greenwich Village on the West side now, I always walk all the way down there to get a fix of their tasty Roast Duck over rice ($5.50), Roast Pig, and Soy Sauce Chicken, all just $5.50, and if you want to get three of these items, it's just a dollar more at $6.50 for 2 meats served over rice, you just can't beat it with a stick.
Sometimes I get a Roast Pork Bun as well as an appetizer for just $1.50 ... Of course you get Free Chinese Tea and water with your meal, so you don't have to spend any money on a beverage unless you want a Soda or Beer. Yes they serve Beer. One of my other favorites is a steamy bowl of Roast Duck Wonton Soup. This dish is amazing! You get a big bowl filled with some Roast Duck, a whole bunch of Wontons (Pork Dumplings), and steamy broth for just $6.50, it's an incredible deal, it's soul satisfying and quite delicious, "I just Love it," and have eaten hundreds of bowls of it over the past 36 years since I first discovered this wonderful establishment. If they ever closed, "I think I would cry." Seriously.
Sun Sai Gai might very well be the greatest deal in town for some incredibly high-quality food, at the cheapest prices imaginable. Check it!
"GO to HELL" !!! SAYING NO to INDOOR DINING in NYC = s "GO to HELL Restaurant Workers"
Yes, Go to Hell is what it amounts to. Restaurant workers are hurting. We're not making enough to pay our Bills. Outside dining is not the answer, we need indoor dining in restaurants to start, "Now!" Governor Cuomo has the nerve to talk about ex-President Gerald Ford metaphorically telling New York to Go to Hell back in the 70s, and he is the Governor of New York and what he is doing to the restaurant workers of New York City, is basically the same. Mayor Bill deBlasio and Govenor ANdrew Cuomo, by not letting restaurants open for indoor dining (which is desperately Needed), Mayor deBlasio and Govenor Cuomo are metaphorically telling the hundreds of thousands of New York City Restaurant Workers to "Go to Hell," the same as President Ford in The 70s, no difference. Will you guys (Cuomo & DeBlaaio) please "WAKE UP," we need to go to Work. "We need to make Money. We need to Pay our Bills! Please!"
You're supposed to be our Mayor and Help us, not Hurt Us, and that's what you're doing Mr. Mayor deBlasio. What's wrong with you. You keep gloating about the outdoor seating like it's the great saviour of the restaurant business and it's Hundreds of Thousands of restaurant workers who depend on going to work, and making our meager livings, just to barely put a Roof Over Our Head and some food on the table and not a whole lot more. We are people of meager means, we are not even of the Middle Class which barely exist any more. We are of the lower class in terms of the money we make, but can you at least please let us do that. Please open indoor dining so we (I) can all get back to work, and make my regular paycheck that just barely pays the bills, but it does at least do that, and I can pay my rent and but food, "which I can not do now. I only get $433 a week Un-Employment, which bring me up to $900 short to pay my Rent and buy food for the week. Mr. Mayor and Governor Cuomo, you two guys are keeping me from making my living. Do you guys want to pay my Rent?"
I used to stand by Governor Cuomo but now I'm starting to get tired all this BS everyday, and they way he sort of acts like a Dictator. The Moronic thing that Cuomo and deBlasio say, their excuses are getting to be to much. "What the Hell is Wrong with you Two Guys. We want to go back to work. Can you get that through your Thick Skulls?
"Mayor deBlasio and Governor Cuomo, stop telling us to "Go to Hell," open indoor dining in restaurants in NYC. We NEED to Go Back to Work Guys !!!!"

#CuomoGOtoHELLtoNYCrestaurantWORKERS
"Hello Mr. Mayor and Mr Governor, This Is NOT The ANSWER" !!!!
"I WANT to GO BACK to WORK DAM IT" !!!
"Gotta Pay The RENT" !!!
"I don't Have Enough to PAY The RENT GUYS" !!!
"That's you Bill deBlasio and Andrew Cuomo"
"HELLO" ????
CUOMO saying No to Indoor Seating in NYC
is like saying "GO to HELL" to NYC Restaurant Workers and Owners
He's acting like a Dictator Now
And he Talks like One
It drives me Crazy that CUOMO Never Seperates Bars and Restaurants. He always bunches them together. Whenever there are large crowds, usually Bars, he doesn't have the capacity to realize that they are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Dam, I thought Cuomo was Smarter than that? Guess I was Wrong. I'm Losing respect for the man. I once had it, now I'm not so sure.
The DUDE BURGERDude says this is Thee Classic Burger. His rendition of an In-N-Out Double-Double that he and Donny developed follows this one (The Dude Burger). As for taste and what not, Dude likes them both. When he’s experimenting a little; throwing on some Green Chili, Bacon, or Cowboy Chili, Dude uses this one. Dude says, try em both. You’ll like.
INGREDIENTS for 4 DUDE BURGERS:
1 ¼ pound Fresh Good Quality Ground Beef (15-20% fat) Salt and Black Pepper 4 or 8 slices good quality American or Cheddar Cheese 4 Hamburger Buns (toasted) 2 tablespoons vegetable oilKetchup (Heinz is the Best)
Divide the Ground Beef into 4 equal parts. Shape Beef into Patties about ½ inch thick. Heat a frying pan (Skillet) over medium heat for 3 minutes. Add oil, and heat 15 seconds. Turn flame up to high. Add raw beef patties. Cook 2 minutes. Season burgers with Salt and Pepper, turn the heat down to medium, cook for two minutes more. Turn heat back up to high. Turn burgers over to other side. Season the cooked side of the burger with a little salt and pepper and add a piece of cheese to each burger. Cook for two minutes until Burgers are just below medium well. For MEDIUM RARE BURGERS, cook 1 minute less on each side. Once the Burgers are finished cooking, place each burger in a toasted bun and serve.
Serve condiments on the side for each person to put on their Burger as they like it. Have on the side : Heinz Ketchup, Mustard, Salt, and Black Pepper. Enjoy ! BURGER NOTES: To cook your Burgers on the back-yard grill, it usually takes about 6 minutes to cook a Half-Inch Thick Burger depending on the heat of the grill, about 4 minutes on the first side and then you turn the burger over and cook it two three minutes on the second side. Also, make sure not to make the common era of flipping your burger several time. You need to flip it once to get the best results. Yes, just once. That’s it, 1 Tim, and as Roberto Duran would say, “No Mas!”
A good trick for you to know, which most home cooks do not know is that you can use a knife to poke into the center of the burger to see how much it is cooked in the center. If you look into the center and see it is rarer than you would like it to be cooked, then you will know that you have a few more minutes to cook it. This is a great trick to know for all cooking, so get in the habit of doing it as it is one of the greatest pieces of cooking knowledge you’ll ever get. This is particularly good method to use when cooking chicken or turkey to look inside to see if the bird is cooked through or if it is still a little raw and you’ll need to cook it more.
As we have laid out instructions to cook a Burger on an outdoor grill as many like to cook them this way. We will reiterate that personally, we feel cooking a Burger cooked in a pan or a Flat-Top-Grill where the Burger can cook in its own fat is the Best way. It gives the burger more flavor, and the burger gets evenly browned, but if you want to cook the burgers on an outdoor grill, that’s your choice and your prerogative as the Stranger would say.
Note: The above recipe is for 4 Dude Burgers. If you want just one then just use a ¼ of the amount of ground beef, Hamburger Buns, and Cheese. To make 2 Burgers, cut the ingredient amounts in-half.
